Carlos Sainz Jr joins the Formula 1 grid as a rookie in 2015 with Toro Rosso following on from limited testing with Red Bull over the past few years. He’s been supported by the Red Bull Junior Driver Programme throughout his early career which culminated in winning the 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 championship with the DAMS Motorsport team.
Sainz Jr is the son of rally legend Carlos Sainz and was born in Madrid on 1st September 1994. In his first season in the sport he will drive alonside fellow rookie Max Verstappen, although at 3 years older than his team mate, it’s widely accepted that he’ll take on the role of the senior driver.
